Pest Control FAQ

Common questions from foreigners dealing with pests in Korean apartments.

I found bugs in my apartment. What should I do first?

Take a photo for identification. Check if it's cockroaches (dark, fast, kitchen/bathroom), bed bugs (flat, reddish, near bed), or ants (trails near food). For cockroaches, buy gel bait from Daiso as a first step.

How do I book pest control if I don't speak Korean?

Cesco has a call center (1588-1119) with limited English. Alternatively, use Soomgo app with Papago translator, or ask your building management (κ΄€λ¦¬μ‚¬λ¬΄μ†Œ) for help.

Is pest control safe for my pets?

Yes, professional services use pet-safe chemicals. Gel bait is the safest option. Inform the technician about pets beforehand. Keep pets away for 1–2 hours after treatment.

How long does treatment take?

30–60 minutes for a standard apartment. Bed bug treatment takes longer (2–4 hours) due to heat treatment requirements.

Will one treatment be enough?

For cockroaches: usually need 2–3 sessions (eggs hatch after 2 weeks). For bed bugs: 2–3 sessions minimum. For ants/mice: often 1 session is enough.

My landlord won't help. What can I do?

In Korea, pest control is generally the tenant's responsibility unless the infestation existed before move-in. However, if it's a building-wide issue (pipes, walls), the landlord/management should handle it.

How much does Cesco cost?

Initial visit: β‚©160,000–200,000 (includes 3 intensive treatments). Monthly maintenance after: β‚©20,000–40,000. Private companies: β‚©30,000–60,000 per visit.

I have bed bugs. Is it an emergency?

Yes, act immediately. Bed bugs spread fast and are hard to eliminate. Don't move furniture to other rooms (spreads them). Call Cesco or a specialist β€” regular pest control may not work for bed bugs.
